Anyone interested in getting together for coffee just because?
My evening conversations these days are comprised of demands for food and water followed by purring, and 'wtb [linen cloth]x200'.
We've got our meeting this Thursday -- so I'm thinking if I put out inquiries now, we can perhaps get a little group together next week some time -- PHP-related or not -- makes no diff to me as long as the conversation is not feline or botched l33t.
I am who I am and if you don't like it, then maybe you are just normal...

I can't come this weekend, but I'd be game for some time after work this coming week, say Tuesday?

Frankly, this exercise is purely selfish on my part.
The past few years of tending to occupational needs have made me socially retarded and I simply have no current other resources to find folks with whom to have coffee and friendly conversation and to get out of my bubble and learn what is going on in the world out there.
That being said; the more the merrier and posting on the main page certainly has my vote.
I really like this group; the diversity in technical exposure, professional experience, life experience, et cetera ad nauseum, thus my posting the suggestion here.
We could certainly take it a step further -- having hung out here for three months now, I see that there is definitely a lull in the activity between monthly meeetings. This makes it difficult for folks like me who are mostly outside of the community to build relationships both social and professional.
$wyrmeTangent = 'I don't know about others, but some of my best jobs have come through social, not professional, contacts. Sometimes the professional circles become a bit too close and need some outside input.';
Perhaps if everyone is amenable we could have a loosely organized mid-month coffee klatsch with no topic agenda -- more a gathering of folks with similar interests, but without the necessary structure of the regular monthly meeting?
And. Because I know you are very busy, Ben, I would be more than happy to deal with the coordination, in the same manner that I have through this thread.
I am who I am and if you don't like it, then maybe you are just normal...

Thanks, necrotic, for posting that on the main site. I have been out of town for the last week in meetings, so I've been fairly busy.
And, Wyrme, I'd love to see more of an informal gathering started, so feel free to organize it. I won't be able to make it all the time, but I'll try.
We'll be sure to promote this on our site and on meetup.com... just pick a fairly regular time/place, and I think it'll be a great thing for our group.

Done.
For good weather, the Starbucks we were at had excellent seating outside -- if weather is poor, however, inside is a bit cramped. So I'll start taking suggestions now for a Starbucks (or other cafe-type establishment) that can become regular or alternate to this location.
This Starbucks also had a little parking lot about a half block away with an entrance directly on Peachtree -- a little rough around the edges, but because Kenneth and his wife were parked there as well, it was comfortable to me to go there after dark with a group. It is also free after dark which was a nice bonus.
I believe midtown works for everyone; please chime up if anyone feels otherwise.
Thursday 19 October @ 19:00 looks good to me. To make it predictable and easy to remember, let's always shoot for third Thursday of the month, two weeks following the Thursday main group meeting.

My wife and I enjoyed the company and coffee. I think this is a great idea and am looking forward to the next cup. Thanks, Wyrme.
