Elizabeth Naramore recently announced PHP Throwdown? Anyone interested in getting together an Atlanta PHP team to participate in the competition?

Sounds like an interesting idea. I even threw out an idea for an app at dinner tonight after the meeting.

Who's sponsoring the contest? From the website it doesn't look terribly organized...

It's not incredibly organized, yet. Elizabeth Naramore is the one developing the idea. She's working on sponsorship/prizes.

Registration for PHP Throwdown opened this week. See here for details: http://phpthrowdown.com/?p=12

Sponsors, rules, and more details are all listed on the site: http://phpthrowdown.com/

I can't participate since I'm a judge, but it'd be nice to see a group from Atlanta PHP sign up and compete. The competition takes place for 24 hours on Saturday, January 27.

If you'd like to discuss things as a team, log on to the #atlphp channel Freenode IRC. I'll be hanging around there in case anyone has any questions about the competition.

I might be interested in participating.

Can I use my own framework that I've already developed?
What are the judging criterias?
What measures will be done to prevent cheating?
How many people have registered so far?

Answers to your questions:

Can I use my own framework that I've already developed?

I believe the answer to this question is "yes." The judges will regard the framework as a tool to achieve a goal. What you do with the framework is what we'll really be judging you on.

What are the judging criterias?

These will be announced from the PHP Throwdown site as they are finalized.

What measures will be done to prevent cheating?

We hope that announcing the judging criteria and submission categories at a late date and right before the competition will help to curtail cheating. That is, it's hard to develop an application if you don't know how it will be judged or whether it will even fit in our categories.

The rules listed on the site state: "Oh, and if you're considering breaking the aforementioned rules, don't worry, we'll be putting in some safeguards. If you're still considering breaking the rules, then you're missing the point and we'd rather you grow up and not compete."

How many people have registered so far?

So far, about 60 teams have signed up in the last week, and we expect more.

Is anyone interested in starting an ATL PHP Team?

I think the throwdown would be more fun in a team environment.

Sure! I'd be up for it, definitely. Do we have an idea yet? If not, I have a few...

I think it'd be great, but I can't organize it, so someone else will need to step forward, lead the team, decide where to meet, etc.

Could we get a status on the judging? I emailed Elizabeth and asked but have not heard from her.
